Alright, you're going to need some backstory for this post. It is an ongoing dispute between me and my dad. I run the easyworship program for my church which puts the worlds to songs on the wall so that the people can know what they are and because of the historical inaccuracy of the song "Do you hear what I hear" I am boycotting it and not putting it up and my dad is mad at me about this. I'll post the song here and show you what I mean by historical inaccuracy
"Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite"
Now since when does wind talk? Since when do sheep understand? And wasn't it the magi who saw and understood what the star meant, not livestock?
"Said the little lamb to the shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea"
So now they have moved up from just the wind talking to sheep talking? Also there was more than one shepard and they heard it from angels, not some stupid lamb.
"Said the shepard boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
In your palace wall mighty king
Do you know what I know
A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold"
Ok in the first place, the shepards did not tell the king about Jesus, it was the magi. First of all if you look in the bible, the king knew nothing about this until the magi came, which with the distance they had to travel probably wasn't about until two years later. Also the king would have never even let in some shepard to his palace and if he did, he wouldn't believe him on this matter. Also why would the shepards tell the king to take the child silver and gold? First of all the shepards whould have know better than to tell the king to do anything and they said "is shivering in the cold, let us bring him silver and gold" while it would have been more usefull for him to have a blanket if he was cold.
"Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light"
Since when was Herod happy about Jesus' birth? He tried to KILL him!!!!
So as you can see there isn't even one true verse in this song. And they try to pass this off as a Christmas song. Makes me sick just thinking about it!

my goodness just put the songs on the screen. it is a christmas song, whether or not you can see the symbolism of it. sheesh.
I would say it might be pretty good advice from your sister. Maybe you should listen to her - she is older than you are, ya know!!!
